Dear Students,
It is come to our attention that an element of Cheating and Plagiarism has snuck into the college. It goes without saying that this behavior is classified as serious misconduct and will be treated as such.
Cheating is
classified as:
- Not completing an assessment task yourself,
- Copying others work,
- Having someone assist you outside of the CTI support network with the assessment task,
- Paying a third party or persons to complete the assessment for you,
- Intentionally accessing or obtaining model answers and trainer guides.
Plagiarism is
classified as:
- A breach of academic integrity,
- Copying, quoting directly or using others Intellectual property without referencing or applying credit,
- Submitting assessment tasks with responses not in your own words,
- Cutting and pasting directly from the internet,
- Inaccurate referencing or acknowledgement of others work.
How do you avoid
plagiarism?
Always complete the assessment task using your own words, it is ok to research and google topics and information, but you must write it in your own words and not copy and paste it directly from the source.
Ensure you reference or cite the source of information in your assessment tasks, see the CTI Referencing Guide for further instructions.
To identify these
instances CTI will be taking the following actions:
- Introduction of plagiarism detection software,
- Increasing penalties and consequences for offenders,
- Upgrading and reviewing the assessment system/format,
- Moderating assessments.
Students caught cheating or plagiarising will face the following:
- First instance - Immediate Not Yet Competent (NYC) being applied to the affected Unit of Competency/s and fines/fees for re-submission of that assessment.
- Secondary instance - Student is issued with a Opportunity to Respond and based on the outcome, the principle will decide on the next action/s to take place.
- Where required, CTI may choose to cancel an enrolment which may have a direct effect on international student's visa status.
We ask, if you are
struggling to complete your assessments, or you need some additional
assistance, please talk with your trainer, they will be able to assist and
guide you.
