Dear students,

In recent times, plagiarism, cheating and collusion have become rampant among assessments & submissions at CTI.

This notice is to bring to your attention that all of the above stated actions are deemed as academic misconduct that have severe consequences and penalties.

Plagiarism is defined as quoting, paraphrasing, or summarizing someone else’s words or ideas without giving credit to that person or source. It is characterized by claiming work published in print, on digital

media, such as Internet, as one’s own. Copying assignments could be construed as plagiarism as well.

As per our policy for the Academic misconduct, consequences include resit of the particular unit( entire unit fees to be repaid) and / or temporary suspension for upto 2 weeks.

Severe acts of plagiarism and cheating include the matter being reported to the police and possible termination of enrolment and being reported to Department of Home Affairs for academic misconduct.

Please refer to pages 74 & 75 of the student handbook that articulates CTI’s policy and zero tolerance for such behaviours.

I expect all of our students to adhere to the highest standards of personal honesty and integrity in their work. Your submissions & assessments must be original, or respect the intellectual contributions of others through correct referencing. If you are unsure, you could do the following:

  • Check with your trainer that you understand your task.
  • Understand and use referencing techniques as instructed by your trainer.
  • When quoting, put the words in quotation marks “like this”, and acknowledge the original author.
  • Use a large variety of sources, this will strengthen your writing and make you less likely to plagiarise.
  • Give yourself enough time to research, take notes, think and write your drafts and final piece.

AND FINALLY

  • Do not copy someone else’s work and hand it in as your own.
  • Do not allow someone else to copy your work and hand it in as their own.

There are several consequences for the above mentioned acts as stated in our academic misconduct policy.

I thank you for your attention to this matter.

Regards,

Rahul Fernandes
